Episode 08 - Style & Thievery '77-'82

 <itunes:author>Susie Aminian</itunes:author>

RECEIVER GALLERY:SUMMER 2007:PODCAST MIXER'S STATEMENT
SUSIE AMINIAN:PART ONE: STYLE & THIEVERY '77-'82

This mix for Receiver Gallery is commentary on the co-existance and cross-over of Post Punk and New Wave in the years between 1977-1982 particularly in Europe. Most of the bands overlap genres. They span from politically charged punk roots of The Cravats and Sick Things to more the commercial Pop/Electronica of Lio and Devo (although Devo was anti-corporate and subversive they also enjoyed commercial success) plus Cold Wave stuff like Ruth and Mathématiques Modernes.

Many songs were removed from this mix. I felt bad for those songs. They reminded me of rejects at the high-school dance. Maybe you wanted to dance with them, but for some reason you didn't. They were still good songs though, maybe I'll work them into another mix. Like an exerts mix or a deleted scenes mix...yeah, I like that! Anyway, the remaining songs were selected for their unique position within these years (yeah, there are plenty of girl bands in there). I hope you like this mix. I tried to make it extra-special just for Receiver.

This is a photo of The Prats. They were a Scottish 12-14 year old boy Post Punk boy-band. Aren't they cute?
