I had a fairly colorful and creative background growing up with my dad. He led the way. We saw life through my dad's perspective of constantly inventing songs/ stories, making simple instruments etc. I grew up mostly on the road- constantly moving. I grew up with two identities for many years, now my false identity is gone and i use my name from birth, veronica de jesus. I live humbly and sweetly in Oakland, Ca I share space with my partner Regina and our cat Dinah, and both our art studios. I attended Sierra Jr College, the San Francisco Art Institute, and UC Berkeley Art Practice. I am currently getting artwork together for my Solo Show in SF at Eleanor Harwood Gallery, (25th and Alabama). The show's focus will be circling around class divisions, sports, and product consumption.
I have memorial drawings that can be seen anytime, just go to dog-eared books (20th and Valencia st.). My friend Colter will be releasing a limited edition book of my memorial drawings, set to be ready sometime this fall/winter 2007(08) I currently teaching beginning drawing in the Art Practice dept at UC Berkeley, and I work once a week at Dog Eared Books.
Veronica De Jesus was born in Cleveland Ohio. De Jesus moved to many more States before she learned to write. By age 8, De Jesus subconsciously knew Detroit, Pittsburg, New York, Chicago, Florida, New Orleans and Los Angeles. DeJesus graduated with Honors and Awards from both SFAI, BFA 1998 & UC Berkeley MFA 2003.
